August 1940 American had cracked a Japanese code. They were all aware of Japanese plans for Southeast Asia. If Japan conquered European colonies there, it could also threaten the American controlled Philippine island and Guam. So not only Japan controlled Europe but they also wanted Philippine. Then while Japan was trying to take over French Indochina, the u.s. placed an embargo or cancelled any was ship out to Japan like steel,Scrap iron, and aviation fuel and even the President Roosevelt cut off oil to them as well because of them overrun French Indochina. That got them really mad so they just like a surprise attack on United States maybe it was a revenge of them for cutting thing that will be send to them. So they planned a massive attacks on U.S. by destroying their fleet or Pearl Harbor that idea was by Admiral Yamamoto to sort of said that fleet was the thing to surprise American. So only that year of December 7,1941,(72 years later) ,American were at Pearl Harbor doing nothing, having a fine sunny morning until they roar of explosives. The U.S. should have known from the coded they sent but I guess Japan wanted to do it now. So United States was trying to fight with their ships and plans but they were outnumbered by a bigger but powerful Japan ships and aircraft, just into two hours of this battle they have destroyed or sunk 18 ships, including 8 battleships. Not just ships was were destroyed, some American were killed and over than 1000 were wounded. As for Japan, nothing much for them considered that they won this battle, ships there was just n little of 30 aircraft and submarines. When president FDR heard about it he was so devastated that he called it as a date which we will live infamy.

after this attack FDR gave his famous speech Infamy Speech to a Joint Session of Congress, calling to declare war on Japan, it din't a long time to request his answer. Then later on the same day the also declare war on German and Itaty.
