The war in Europe had began in 1939. As Hitler was planing his next steps, Italy, who was an Allie of Germany had expanded the war even farther by invading North Africa and Greece. Germany was forced to come into Italy's assistance in early 1941 because the Greek campaign was a failure. later in 1941, the Germany had invaded the soviet union. This made this their ambitious decision yet. According to History Spark Notes "Although the Germans initially made swift progress and advanced deep into the Russian heartland, the invasion of the USSR would prove to be the downfall of Germany’s war effort." The country was just too big. even though the Russians resistance was weak, its brutal winters, combined with its determination and strength, would eventually be more than the German army, and therefore the Germans could no longer overcome. In 1943 after the battles of Kursk, Stalingrad, The Germans were forced into a full scale retreat. in 1944. the Germans were steadily and slowly forced out of the Soviet union, after which the Russians had pursued them across the eastern Europe and into Germany its self, in 1945.
Even thought the attack on pearl harbor had provoked a declaration by the United States, and Japan, it would be several months before the united states would get involved, militarily. In the late spring of 1942 the United States had gotten into a series of battles that had climaxed in the battle of ,mid way on June the third to the sixth. in this climax, japan had suffered a catastrophic defeat.. on the islands of Guadalcanal,

(bottom) the Allied forces had carried out an invasion, which was the beginning of a long series of allied offensives. this would eventually force the Japanese out of the Solomans, which would then pursue them from various pacific island chain that the Japanese earlier seized. According to ushmm.org, "The Soviets began an offensive on January 12, 1945, liberating western Poland and forcing Hungary (an Axis ally) to surrender." In about the middle of February 1945. the Allies had bombed the German city of Dresden. This bombing killed about 35,000 civilians. The American troop had crossed a river known as Rhine river on March 17, 1945. The soviet forces were able to encircle the German capital, Berlin, because a final soviet offensive on April 46, 1945. As the Soviet Troops were fighting their way to the Reich Chancellery, Hitler had committed suicide on April 30, 1945. This then had made Germany surrender unconditionally to the Western Allies at Reims. On may 9th they suffered to the soviets in Berlin.
